St Andrews, Clewer - Grave Location?
« on: Tuesday 24 October 06 12:02 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I'm hoping someone lives in or near St Andrews church in Clewer, who could see whether it's possible to locate the grave/s of my husband's g-g-g-g-grandparents.

Their names are Jethro DOBSON and Elizabeth MEARNS/MAIRNS.
Burials (from St Andrews register) were 25 Aug 1833 (Jethro) and 12 June 1836 (Elizabeth).

I would love a photograph, if there is any headstone still in existence  :)

Thank you in advance for any help!  :D

Whereabouts is Clewer within Berkshire do you know any other adjacent places?

Have found a Clewer in Somerset but not Berkshire.

Clewer is at the eastern end of Berkshire - adjacent to Windsor. Much of the town we would now consider to be Windsor is in the area of the ancient parish of Clewer. The PRs are available on CD from Berks FHS.

The MIs have been done but the BRO doesn't seem to have a copy. Windsor Library does http://makeashorterlink.com/?D2032690E.

Finding a grave is often not possible - unless a grave register has been kept for the time in question. If not you have to rely on a) the grave being marked by a stone etc. and b) that the marker is still legible. The Clewer MIs were published in 1984 - which is a bonus as some stones will hve become illegible in the intervening time - at least they are identifiable using the MIs.

Thanks to you both...Newburychap, I have contacted the Windsor library people to ask about the publication you found - I live in Australia, so hopefully they will be able to suggest a way I can access it!
Many thanks for your help

The church also has a copy (having remembered where I saw it).
