Hello Sharon

Yes I think they are.  The Peppers are related to my Hupton family who have some connection to Mayer.  I have been looking for a connection for ages (years in fact).  Let me consult my tree. Please, please don't let me lose you in the eather now I have found a connection.  I have been asking for ages.  I shall send you a PM if you don't mind when I have consulted my tree.

Hi Sharon

Good to hear from you.  I am afraid I got over excited :D  I can't find the connection now but I know there is one.  Attached to your family are there any connections to Cope?  My Cope family (who married into Hupton) were related to the Mayers.  Now I know their mother was called Pepper.  As you can see from this thread and another on this site, the Mayer family is very convoluted.  In the 50s my Mum & Dad went to Staffordshire re Joseph Mayer's will, but I cannot find any info about this, sadly all dead now.

hi carole, my grandad herbert pepper, after reading the local stoke on trent newspaper along time ago,not sure of date, attended the town hall on the date stated as they were asking for descendants of ann mayer - apparently it was headlines in the paper as Mayers Millions?? is this the same connection?

Hi

It could very well be.  This has always been a family myth and unfortunately when I was younger I didn't  listen (not interested) but now I have got older and have started to look into my family history it's too late.  No-one left to ask.  I do know the relationship is my Dad who was Hupton and the only name I can link to the area is Cope, I think!  It's very frustrating that I just can't find this one connection.  Today I have sent for an ancestors birth cert to find a maiden name and start from there.  But I am confused over Joseph Mayer (the one with millions) I think there may be 2 or there may only be one.  I do know though his mother was  a Pepper.

hi carole,my tree seems to be different than yours then, as on my tree  john pepper married ann mayer,he had a brother joseph, don't know who ann's dad was.they went on to have an only son john who married charlotte shuker and they too had an only child named herbert who was my great grandfather - if you think you may have it wrong you could look into who ann mayers father was that is on my tree that married john 2nd july 1838 wolstanton x
