Handley deaths
« on: Sunday 29 October 06 09:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi...I'm looking for the death record of my maternal gt, grandmother Rose Ann Handley (nee Melford) she was born in Co.Mayo, Ireland in 1838 and moved to Sheffield around the mid 1850's. However, after the 1901 census she seem's to have disappeared.

Her daughter Rose (my gran) moved to Hull around 1895 after her marriage and I wondered if Rose Ann moved with her, I can't find her on the Yorkshire BMD records for Hull. Would it be worth a visit to the Hull Archive Centre?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

I think you'd be best searching the death records (free at the moment on www.ancestry.co.uk) for her.  Even if you have a Hull address for Rose, the electoral lists won't show her or her mother until after 1918, when women over 30 got the vote, so the Local Studies Library won't be able to help.

Hi Sutton Trust...Thanks for that, but would Rose Ann have survived to 1918? I don't think they lived past 60 in those days did they?

I've looked through the ancestry.com's database but haven't checked past 1900.

Thanks once again.

Kind regards

I thought you said that she was on the 1901 census.  If so, you need to look from 1901 onwards for her death.  And lots of people did live past 60 in those days!
