Can't find a death registration
« on: Monday 30 October 06 12:18 GMT (UK) »
We have a Robert Diley birth registered in J/A/S 1935. We have always been lead to believe that he died as a baby. However, I've got as far as 1940 and still can't find a death registration for a child. Presumably child deaths did require a regisitration?
Eaton (Woughton on the Green, Doncaster and N. London), Davis(Shinfield and London), Harrington (Ireland and London), Sutcliffe (Todmorden and London), Williams, Hollingsworth (Thaxted), Lane (Rotherhithe), Fuller (Chesterton, Cambs), Dilley (who knows where????)

Hi Jillie

Yes, everyone has to have a death certificate.  If the baby died in a hospital then it could be in a different registration district to where it was born.  So try all nearby registration districts in your search.

Sussex: Floate, West
Kent: Tuffee
Cheshire: Gradwell
Lancashire: Gradwell

Also Stillbirths were made registrable by the Births and Deaths Act 1926.

Doh!! :D :D :o  Thanks Kerry.

I was looking on Ancestry.co.uk and the only registration months it DIDN'T show were J/F/M 1936.

If a quarter doesn't show in the search, it's usually because it has been indexed wrongly - not because the image isn't there.  In that case, search for a similar name (eg DINGLE or DICKS), then use the Prev/Next button to get to the page you want.
