parish record Glamorgan
« on: Tuesday 31 October 06 15:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi, does anyone know if the birth records for Glamorgan are on-line?

I am looking for a Thomas Huzzey who according to the 1851 english census was born about 1800 in Glamorgan, Wales.
If I can't find it i suppose I will have to visit the Records office in Cardiff.
Would this be possible or would I need a more specific place of birth?

                             Regards, Paul.

Looking through the baptism records for Glamorgan pre-1837, I found a Hannah Huzzey, daughter of Thomas, a copperman, and Hannah, living at Morriston, near Swansea, and baptised in Llangyfelach parish on 27 Apr 1821. Could her father be your man?

There is one Thomas Huzzy and several Thomas Huss(e)ys, but none baptised later than 1793.

Gloucester, 1829).

You will need a baptism index as pre 1837 there are no birth records only baptism records. If you know parents names etc then i will have a look for you! It's not always possible to find people but wortha try!

Thanks to you both for your prompt reply!
I hve no record of Thomas having a daughter Hannah, but he could have.

The first of their children i have is John, born 1822.
This came from the 1841 census and if hannah was his, she could have already left home.

Maybe he was baptised Hussey because his marriage record reads:

Thomas Hussey married Hannah Louisa Bevan at Walford on 23/6/1821

This still doesn't explain the gap between the baptism and his stated DOB of 1800.

Thanks for checking anyway, Yours Paul.

I have two burials: Margaret Huzzy 3-11-1869 Gelligron House 22years
William Huzzy   16-8-1869 Swansea 48 years

Then: Hannah Hussey 2-7-1862 Gelligron 33 years

It's doesn't appear to be a common name.

Gelligron House was the home of the Rees family in Pontardawe. Late in the 18th century the father, Josiah Rees, had been a prominent nonconformist preacher at nearby Gellionen nonconformist chapel. He had eleven children. Two of his sons moved to London where they were involved in the publishing business, courting Iolo Morgannwg who they hoped would send them his “History of Wales” for publication. By the 1840s only two spinster sisters remained at Gelligron.  Today the house is used by Social Services.

My wife's ancestors worked there briefly in the mid 19th C as servants.

Hi
I cant add a lot more to your specific query but I have Huzzy/Hussy in my tree. Matthew Huzzy b c 1797 who became a copper man. The name varied between Huzzy and Hussey I suppose depending on who wrote it down. In 1841 Mathew is shown as being a copper man and in 1851 he is shown as a copper smelter and as being born in Llangyfelach.
Over the years I have made notes of lots of Huzzys/Husseys and various dates and looking through them now I have a Thomas Huzzy father John as being baptised 28 oct 1787. My Matthew has a possible father named John as well.
I haven't looked at my Huzzys for sometime but am happy to delve into them again and maybe find more info for you. Most of my dates I got from Free Reg and also visiting west glamorgan archives as I dont live far from there.
