1861 Census Please Campbeltown COSSINS
« on: Wednesday 01 November 06 13:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone help me with an 1861 Census look up for the COSSINS family please?

The were in Devon 1851 & Camberwell, London 1871.
Born in Devon, head of house William was employed by H M Customs.

I think the daughter Jessie N.  was born in Scotland.
In 1861 they may be in Campbeltown, Argyll  .....

William Henry   42
Mary A   39
William H  17
Mary A  15
Frederick G 13
Frances J  11
Sydney 9
Emma Eugenia   4
Jessie N   1

Thank you

Hi VAT

This looks like Jessie's birth details from IGI:

JESSIE NORVAL COSSINS  Birth:  25 MAY 1859  Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland
Parents: Father:  WILLIAM HENRY COSSINS  Mother: MARY ANN PENISFER

I am getting a hit on the pay to view site Scotlands People for a Jessie Cossins  aged 0-1 in Campbeltown in the 1861 Census (and an Emma aged 4 and a Mary 39). 10 entries in total in Campeltown for that surname but not William Snr.  So, likely the family were there even though William might have been away from home on the night of the census. I'm out of units on SP at the moment, hopefully someone else may be able to assist further.

Regards.

Monica
