Ralph HEWITT McMULLEN Carleton 20thC. How do I find if they had children?
« on: Saturday 04 November 06 09:29 GMT (UK) »

Can someone please tell me how to find out if a couple, Ralph R HEWITT 1894-1960 & his wife Dorothy McMULLEN 1906-1983 had any children and about these children ? They probably married in 1920s.
Dorothy was born at Bishops Mills Ont.  I know a bit about her family.

I have located Ralph & Dorothy HEWITT's  grave- plot 3, Capital Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Carleton Ont. No info on headstone: just  "Together Forever".

Any ideas /help very welcome.
Thanks,
charlotte

This will not help you find any children, but here are Ralph Hewitt's "Attestation Papers"

Hi Janice,
Thank you for all the great info you have sent. It fills out the picture about Ralph HEWITT who I only knew as having married Dorothy McMULLEN.  She is in my maternal line hence my interest in the couple.
Maybe the John Roy HEWITT in the same cemetry is their son.

All very tantalizing- if only Ont had  up to date bdms like England!

Thank you again.

 Janice,
Thank you- I've copied and pasted them into my FTM notes so if possible links come later they will be waiting.

Can you tell me if Carleton covers parts of Ottawa? Is St George's ward from earlier census near there? If you don't know please don't put yourself oout to try to find out- I could do that- I ask on the offchance you know the area.
  Thank you again,
  Best wishes,
charlotte

Hi again Charlotte,

St. George's Ward was in the eastern portion of modern downtown Ottawa - mostly the neighbourhood now known as Sandy Hill.  It would not include Booth Street - Ralph's address on his attestation papers (although Booth Street still exists as well).

If you have any more questions about the area, just give me a shout - I have lived in Ottawa all my life (including Goulbourn Township).   :D
