« on: Saturday 04 November 06 14:32 GMT (UK) »
I have just found my great grandfather listed on the 1851 England census.  He was in the army at Chatham barracks and the entry for his place of birth is Camacross, Meath, Ireland.
can anyone shed any light on where this is?

Carnaross is located on the N3 , this is the road from Dublin to Cavan, follow this road through Navan to Kells, approx two miles past Kells is Carnaross, a small village, 1pub, a couple of shops and a post office, the place is known mainly for the cattle market located there.

Looking back at the census it could well be Carnaross.  Will do a bit more checking.  Thanks for the replies.

I was very "off" with my suggestion ! sorry!.

Just found that the parish name for Carnaross is:  LOUGHAN, OR CASTLEKEERAN.

Kind regards, Karen
