« on: Saturday 04 November 06 18:01 GMT (UK) »
I have Elias Dann who married Elizabeth Davies jun qtr 1869 in Swansea

Elias was born c 1842 Brede, Sussex and Elizabeth somewhere in Pembrokeshire.

In 1861 Elias was on a boat in Norfolk and Elizabeth was with parents in Swansea
when married they were as below

1881 - 18 Strand, Swansea - pub owners
1891 - 3/4 Strand, Swansea - pub owners
1901 - Elias had died, Elizabeth lived 10 Strand "Museum Tavern", Swansea

Just can't seem to find them in 1871

many thanks

David

No luck I'm afraid but I wondered if you had Edmund's birth certificate to see what address was on it?

Edmund John Dan December qtr 1870 Swansea 11a 564

I also wondered whether you had checked any trade directories to see when they became listed as publicans?

Oh!  I wonder ......
Emma ? Street, Swansea

Edmund John Davies Son 5 months Swansea Glamorgan
Ann Evans Visitor Un 14 In occupation Maenclochog Pembrokeshire

Writing is bad, and I'm not familiar with Welsh place names so unsure of the two Pembrokeshire birthplaces.

Thats brilliant! I do believe that is them, can't understand why she would have been under her maiden name, even if her husband was at sea? Maybe i won't find him if he was at sea at time of census?

St Dogmaels is good as i now have her birthplace. Her parents were born in Cardigan/Pembs

I would expect you had somebody like the visitor or next door neighbour who didn't know her married name giving the info to the enumerator while she was feeding the baby, or maybe she just wasn't used to being "Mrs Dann" since he was away at sea.

I'm sure it must be her though, glad I found it.
