If its any help there was a Frederick BARBER living in Walmgate York in 1901.  He was born in Wingfield Suffolk in abt. 1871 and was married to Annie born Thornton le Clay.  They have a 3 month Son Alfred born York.

I can't look up the details for you but someone else may be able to ref:

RG13; Piece: 4445; Folio: 18; Page: 27.

P.S.  Both Alfred in 1900 and the Thomas irret found in 1903 were registered in Walmgate York

Just to round this off another RCer looked up Frederick's occupation in 1901 and he was a bricklayer.

Have just noticed that in your heading you mention Charles BARBER but in the message you give the name Thomas - might just be worth clarifying which name is right.

I have a "possible marriage of James Barber to Kate Ambler in Hunslet Leeds, possibly Dec 1905.  There is some confusion as to Kate's husband, as we have another "possible" marriage to James Fletcher.  I am trying to clarify the situation and would love to hear from anyone who can shed some light on this mystery.
Kate was the daughter of Peter and Annie Ambler.  Maeve
