Cambridgeshire Burial Records
« on: Friday 12 November 04 20:49 GMT (UK) »
I have found 2 Mary Parkinson's (possibly my 3xgreat grandmother) buried in 1826. One aged 47 at Cambridge St Michael, the other aged 52 at Cambridge All Saints. How can I determine if one is the wife of Allen Parkinson?
Any help appreciated.
Colin

You could check both parish registers to see if either entry stated that Mary was the wife of Allen Parkinson.

In which parish were her children baptised? It's possible that she was buried in the same parish. (but see below)

Check the Cambs FHS website

http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

The baptism index has four baptisms in Hauxton where the parents are Allen and Mary. Are these your family? Check this PR as well. (two of the baptisms are in 1827 so there are two scenarios - the children were baptised after the death of Mary, or Mary was still alive in which case neither 1826 death is your Mary).

If you know Mary's birth details then given the 5 year difference in ages of the two Mary's buried you might be able to make a reasonable deduction towards one or the other.

David

David,
Thank you for your help. Hauxton was the "home" parish for the Parkinson's. The 2 baptisms you refer to in 1827 for Sarah & Peter suggest family were away from home or county as Sarah was born 1817 and I wonder if they were baptised after returning to home or county?
The excellant CFHS shows Mary's husband Allen in Hauxton in 1841 & 1851, he also appears on the census for 1861 and died there in 1865.

I therefore assume Mary died pre-1841 and therefore interested in the 2 burial details for for 1826 at Cambridge St Michael and Cambridge All Saints.
Mary's birth is uncertain so not sure if a 47 or 52 year old ties in. I will have to try the Parish Records as you suggested.

Incidentally, my 2xgreat grandfather William Parkinson (eldest son of Allen & Mary) was baptised in 1813 Sawston Indep and living at Stapleford.
Thanks again for your help
Colin
