« on: Sunday 05 November 06 23:55 GMT (UK) »
I am researching Mary Jane Claxen or Claxon.  Can anyone help me here please, I have no idea what County she was born in,  ???  she married my GGGrandfather George William Roberts in 1858, in Sunderland, Durham, they had a child George William born in Sept 1864, have all the information on him and his father but nothing on Mary Jane or any other children she may have had.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Lyn

On this topic:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,194470.msg962775.html#msg962775

Lookups found:
1871: The son George is with his paternal Grandparents age 6 and stated to be born Bishopwearmouth . Census is Bishopwearmouth.

1851: The father George is with his parents in 1851 - stated to be born abt 1844 SUnderland. Census is Bishopwearmouth.

Is this correct information?
Do you have the son in 1881, 1891 or 1901 - where even if not with parents, he may have members of his birthfamily in the house?

Cheers  ;D

Hi Ambly

Thanks for replying.  I have George Senior in 1851, George Junior in 1871 with Grandparents, but nothing about juniors mother or siblings if any.

If you have the time could you lookup the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census.  George Junior won't be on the 1901 though because by that time he had emigrated to Australia, but don't know what year he came out, I have found his wife and family on board cuzco in 1893.  If George Senior was still alive then he may be.

Hi Lynn
Hang on.....BELLS are a ringing...!  I remember now, I was in on the fringes another Roberts topic:

JNR
You have George in 1891 with wife & kids and some BELLS next door who may be related to his wife.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,175681.msg839685.html#msg839685

He is with an Aunt in 1881: (his father's sister Mary, now Mrs LOWNDS in Bishopwearmouth
REF: RG11- Piece 4987- Folio 60- Pg113
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,193988.msg959994.html#msg959994

So for George Jnr - all poss Census covered 1871 to 1891.
He most likely went ahead to Australia - it was common for the husbandfather to do so.but usuyally not too far ahead of the wife & kids. He may unfortunately be listed only by initials -  like G ROBERTS on a manifest and be harder to pick out that a G W would be.

SNR:
Do you know for sure it was your George W ROBERTS Snr who married Mary CLAXEN in 1858?

If he was born abt 1844 (as so far it seems apparent if you know  he was the son of John the Chelsea Pensioner and was  brother of  John born in Corfu)

Because: In that case, in  1858 he would only be 14 or so.

Cheers

Hi Ambly

Regarding George Senior yes he is the son of John and brother of John born in corfu.

As for his marriage, it seemed really young to me too, but as far as I have been able to tell it was him, but I think I should keep looking anyway.

Thanks for your help and time, I appreciate it.
