Hi Roger!

I'm very excited to finally find someone who has some information about George.   :D

I am descended from George and Alice, and I know about their children and descendents.

I couldn't get any further back, because I could not find their marriage (which I see you have - what is your source?) or any further information about George that would help me trace him in England.  All I had was an approximate date of birth and the fact that he was born in England.  So I see you have been able to find some info that connects George Longfield, husband of Alice, to George Longfield, son of Joseph and Hannah.  I am very interested to hear about how you did that!

If I remember correctly (not having my notes in front of me) I have found Alice Capstick's family in Westmorland already.  Her parents and siblings came over as well, so that made things easier.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

MJP  ;D

Dear Martha:

I'm an ardent genealogist married to the great granddaughter of Francis Longfield, the son of Joseph and Hannah Longfield's second son, William. From my mother-in-law I have all the info on William's branch from the mid 1800s on. From a researcher in Selby, Yorkshire and the IGI I have from Joseph back to early 1500s. I also have reams on the Stonehouse connection as well. I have extensive records from a 'Longfield' data book that was updated every time the Longfields and Capsticks of Dorchester met for the annual family picnic up till the early 1940s. I have many contacts here in Canada and in the US with Joseph's descendants. If you care to contact me outside the chatroom I can start getting you up to speed. I have been digging in this family for almost 30 years.

One of the reasons you've had trouble linking George to Joseph and Hannah is that he was born several years before Joseph married Hannah, and he is in the IGI under his mother's maiden name, Jarvis. I have information from church records here and in England, census, Methodist Baptismal registers and family members collectings. I think I can even put you in contact with some cousins who have pictures of George & Alice's family.

Where do you connect in George's line?

Regards,

Roger Miller

Wow - thanks Roger!  This is great. I will send you a personal message with my email address.

The line from George to me is as follows:

George + Alice

Their son Joseph + Frances Williams

Their daughter Ethel Jane + Percy Smith

Their son George + Joan Eagle (my grandparents - George was in the Canadian Forces in WWII - Joan was a war bride from Yorkshire)

My Mom

Me (making George and Alice my ggg-grandparents)

I am very much looking forward to hearing about the family.  I suppose if George was born before the marriage, then there is no way to prove that Joseph is his father and he should not be named Longfield after all!   ::)  I wonder why he came to Canada, and so early on too...

I am also very curious to find out how Joseph and Dinah/Dianna Longfield fit in to the picture, as I'm sure they must be related to George somehow.

Martha
