1841 Thorneley New MIlls
« on: Saturday 13 November 04 09:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

an ancestor of mine , Joseph Thorneley, according to the 1871, 1881, census for Stockport was born in New Mills. In 1851 it was stated that he was born in Peak Forest but this could have something to do with the new Peak Forest canal going through New Mills.
If anyone could look him up and see if he was on the 1841 census in Derbyshire I would be extremely grateful.
If anyone has access to the parish records for New Mills area and could do a look up around 1812/13 they would be amazing.
Joseph Thorneley was  a labpourer and at one time a bricklayer's labourer. This may or may not help.
Regards
Jean Sandra

check out THORNHILL too-I am researching THORNHILL line and have found the name was transcribed in several different ways-even on church records-I have a John Thornhill whose name was transcribed as THORNLEY on an early census-all in the same household 's surnames were transcribed differently!!!
On some church records THORNHILL was THORNHILE-then same person in another record is THORNELEY-or THORNLEY.
the JOHN I have was transcribed THORNELEY-then on his marriage THORNLEY-but his children were all THORNHILL!!!!
Keeps us busy!!!!
Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England
