Hi Janan

I am very new to research!  My Grandfather was William S Heath.  I have only just found out he died in WW1 1915 from a distant cousin in Canada.  He went AWOL in 1915, was arrested as a deserter and sent to the front and was killed.  This was all hushed up by the family, I have no idea what Regiment he was in.  He was born in Abergavenny but registered in Highworth, Wilts., he married my Grandmother in 1912 in Merthyr Tydfil district.  I just would really like to find out about him, and his family.

I found the family on the 1901 Census where his Mother was listed as Head of House (Martha J. Mills)  In the 1881 Census H of H was William Heath born abt. 1818.  Presumably WH Snr died and Martha J remarried or reverted to maiden name?

I suppose I was hoping that someone from the Heath family descendents in Blunsdon St. A might read this!

Hi again

I have today sent off for my Grandfather's marriage and birth certs, they say delivery about 21st Novemberm will let you know.  I thought it odd Wm S Heath was born in Abergavenny but all the other children were born in B. St. A.

So, what website do you access for your research?  I am not too sure which one I should sign up to.

Hi
In 1871

The Village Highworth
William Heath Head M 54 Labourer Agr Blunsdon
Martha do Wife 28
Henry do Son 7
Elizabeth do Dau 5
RG10/1876/29 Pg22

I have a sneaking suspicion William H (Henry I think in 71) may well be in Abergavenny in 91 and the son for your grandfather in 1901 should be grandson - William H is listed as married - I'll go and look

I subscribe to Ancestry - you can usually try it for free first.

Ellen A is also listed as Martha J's daughter rather than grandaughter in 1901. Elizabeth is a servant in Swindon. I can't find Hannah anywhere maybe she and William parted company.

Thanks Jan, that's brilliant :)

Spookily I don't live far from Abergavenny and Glynconwy is not a name I recognise, it could possibly be Glangrwyney? Welsh names do get corrupted.

They must have left shortly after Wm's birth because he is registered in the BMD at Highworth.  He went back  back to S. Wales (work? to see his Mum?) because he married my Grandmother in Sept 1912 in Bedlinog, Glamorgan when he was about 19.

This could get seriously addictive!

Hi again
Hope the birth certificate confirms William Henry and Hannah as parents - it will also confirm if Messam is her maidenname, the writing for that 1891 entry is awful. It isn't just Hannah I can't find in 1901, I can't see her parents and brother either, nor can I find them on earlier censuses ??? ::) so Hannah Heath may be lurking around somewhere in 1901. I'll have another look.
Just noticed someone has added Sarah as another possible name for her so I'll check that out.
I checked back a few pages hoping to find the place name better written - it says Glyncorrwg later Llangynwyd. Street is I think Jersy Rd
