I'm also interested in Col Mac Nish Porter,a  cousin of Major William Dudley MacNish Porter (whose grandson I'm in touch with). He knew my grandfather when they both lived in Carlow. I'd love to see photographs. Anyone with any information is most welcome to contact me through my website www.turtlebunbury.com

I am Miles MacNish Porter's godson.  He was my mother's younger brother.  Perhaps you would like to get in touch?

Robert's mother Gladys Florence Gordon was my Great Aunt. Perhaps we could correspond.

According to my research, Colonel Robert Myles MacInish (sometimes McNish) Porter was born in Enfield on 17th October 1914. His mothers maiden name seems to have been Gordon. His sister Faith C Porter was born in 1918.
He joined the Royal Marines. After the war, he lived in Carlow in Ireland and became a pal of my grandfather, Lord Rathdonnell, but he left for reasons unclear circa 1948,. We know little more of his Carlow connection save that he lived near the Rathgall Ringfort and had 224 acres at Rath 2½miles E. of Tullow claimed by Land Commission in 1958 - http://historical-debates.oireachtas.ie/D/0168/D.0168.195806100030.html
I think the Colonel’s other half was Margaret M Childerstone, born in Bedford in Sept 1915, daughter of Henry Mansfield Childerstone  and his wife Harriette Mary Fry.
I am interested to know what brought him to Carlow.

From the Irish Newspapers
His bankruptcy 1953 gives his address as Rath House Tullow Co. Carlow
1947 his wife lost her large dark chocolate brown poodle female dog called Zulu, she also advertised for a cook.
Her name is given as S M McNish Porter when selling tickets for a Ball, she appears to be involved in horses another list gives her name as Sylvia McNish Porter

Robert wins prizes for cattle at Farmers Shows and more in that vain.

1947 Leeson Neale Rath House Tullow is selling Household furniture, horses etc because he has sold his farm, so did Robert buy the house and farm from Leeson.
