In the 1960s Crockfords, the directory of clergy, would have included information about all ordained Anglican clergy so you could try there (in the last ten years it has only had a much more limited list). Not sure if you can get to a library which would have it.
Its VERY unlikely that a diocesan office would have this information nor would the bishop's office as they do not keep that stuff. Its just possible if someone can get hold of the Diocesan directory that there might be an obit but it would mean working through it. In Exeter I know there is a run of that diocese's diocesan directories in the Cathedral Library and you would probably find Crockfords there too
It may be that the Church Commissioners (1 Millbank, London SW1P 3JZ) might be able to help (through their pensions board perhaps) but with the constraints of data protection I think its a bit of a lost leader.
Do you know which Cathedral he was a Canon of - as again that might give you some information - things like an obit in the Cathedral news (or Friends newsletter) but quite a lot of work for someone.
