VAGUE and JANE families Cornwall
« on: Wednesday 15 November 06 08:57 GMT (UK) »
On a bitterly cold evening in Australia - only weeks from summer - hello!

I am interested to learn more of the family of Jean VAGUE and Phillip JANE who married circa 1795.  Lanhydrock, Bodmin, Lanlivery...that's the area I think they were living as some of their grandchildren were born in these places. I know of three children - John (1796), Robert (1800) and Phillip (1804). However I do not know where they were born, baptised or married.

I have no information about the marriage of Jean and Phillip and would love to learn when and where it took place.

Jean's parents and siblings are also a total mystery.

I would be so very grateful for any help to find this family.

Cheers  :) :) :)

from the IGI,
Philip Jane married Joan Vague 1/4/1796 batch M002141 Lanlivery Rural. Phillimore index has him as yeoman and the marriage was by licence.
John baptised 2/12/1796 s/o of Philip and Joan Lanlivery Rural batch P002141
Robert bp 4/5/1800 same batch no.
Philip bp 1/7/1804 same batch no.

Joan Vague baptised 5/11/1766 d/o Robert and Martha Lanlivery Rural batch P002141. Two older sisters on same batch.

Philip Jane bp 10/2/1771 Lanhydrock which surprisingly matches for age with the 1841 census entry at H0107/150/5 folio 5 pg 4 (if that is right family?)

Martha Vage d/o Robert and Martha bp 28/9/1761 died 26/6/1770
Susannah Vague d/o Robert & Martha bp 1/3/1758
both batch P002141

Robert Vague married Martha Woolcock 6/1/1757 Lanhydrock batch M002161
There's also a marriage for Robert Vague and Catherine Weymond 3/11/1754 Lanlivery batch M002141 which could be the same Robert as I can see only one baptism to this couple William 11/8/1755 Lanhydrock P002161.

Possible baptism for Robert 26/1/1725 s/o William and Susanna at Lanlivery especially given his children's names.

Jane family all baptised Lanhydrock batch P002161 children of John & Susanna
Ann 30/11/1768
Philip 10/2/1771
Thomas 17/9/1775
John 30/11/1777
Susannah 26/3/1780
Agnes 7/4/1782
Joan 1/8/1784
Green (son!) 2/10/1785
Dorothy 17/8/1788
Joseph 6/8/1791

John Jane married Susanna Vyvyan 20/10/1767 M002161
Susannah Vyvian bp 25/6/1747 d/o Philip & Dorothy P002161

All this should be verified with originals, difficult in your case unless you're planning a trip to Truro? Ordering the LDS films probably your best option at the moment although emailing the online parish clerks for Lanlivery and Lanhydrock also worth a shot.

What a great morning!!!  ;D ;D ;D To wake up and find your informative postings was just fantastic. Feel like jumping for joy!!!

Thank you Osprey and Chris for this most amazing information.

I'll contact the OPC for Lanlivery later today. So many of the family were from that area....wow...a chance to fill some gaps.

Now to get my head around all the information provided by Osprey....

How am I going to get any housework done today? :D :D :D

Cheers

Elsie

Hi Elsie

I am Pauline, the OPC for Lanlivery. I will gladly look up my records for you, but at the moment we are flat out here preparing for our daughter's wedding in 2 weeks time  ;D

If you can bear with me, I'll put some time in after the event. It may be an idea to email me direct just to prompt the old memory cells  ;)

Kind regards

Pauline

Hi Pauline!

Thank you for contacting me. I can be patient...I understand! Been there, done that. I'll jog your memory a week or two after the wedding to allow you recovery time.  ;D ;D ;D

Enjoy. It's a marvellous time.

Hi Elsie

I live in Lanlivery and am churchwarden - if you would like me to look for Vague's in the churchyard I will - that is when it's not raining!

Hi Ellen!

Lanlivery...how wonderful!

From about 1804 I have identified family connections to Lanlivery through the JANE family when Phillip JANE married Joan Vague. Obviously her family were already living in Lanlivery. I know nothing about them.

I would so appreciate your looking for the Vagues in the churchyard when you are able. Thank you for making such a kind offer.

Wish it was raining here in Australia. We are living through an horrendous drought.

Cheers

Elsie
