Marriage Gravesend Hassell-Allen 1890
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 17:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

BMD says James Charles Hassell and Henrietta Allen married in the Sept qtr 1890, ref. 2a / 871 at Gravesend.  Is there a generous soul who can tell which church this is, from the ref., and even look at the fiche/film at the records office?  I'd like very much to know exact date, where, witnesses, parents, jobs etc.  Thanks very much and if you need a Herts / LMA lookup ... just ask - RH

Hi RH

If it was a C of E church then you may well be able to find it in the online parish registers of Gravesend or Milton:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bl/

There is a secondary index of many marriages in places which now come under Kent County Council and which may have helped locate the place of marriage but, unfortunately, 1890 is missing :(

Let us know how you get on viewing the parish registers.  It can be very time consuming but, at the same time, very rewarding if you have ancestry in that area :)

Thanks very much Casalguidi.  I found the marriage reference on Holy Trinity, Milton-next-Gravesend using the first of the URLs you gave me off rootschat links, brilliant.  I knew nothing about it.

How many more bodies are going to follow suit and put original parish transcripts online ?  Do you have any idea?

Hi Richard

Glad you found it ;D

Sorry but I have no knowledge of other authorities/bodies following suit - it is a great idea though.  The whole of Medway broke away from Kent County Council a couple of years ago so now manage their own amenities/finances independantly.
