Miller family...Liverpool
« on: Friday 17 November 06 11:26 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to find my great grandfather, John Miller. I don't know where he was born, or when, but it must have been around 1874. I have his wedding certificate. He married an Isabella Dutton, 5th Aug 1895, at St. Peter's, Liverpool. On the wedding cert., he was 21, occupation, slater. His father was James Miller, he was a boot maker.

Their children (the one's I know of) were, John, Henry, Walter, Lilly, Joseph b 1909 and James b 1905. I'm not sure of the order they were born in, but I think they were all born in Liverpool.

My grandfather was James b 1905, on his wedding cert, John's occupation is a plasterer.

Cheers,

Red   :)

Thank you rambler.

That's the first I have seen of them. I have known they where there, but couldn't find them!!! I didn't know anything of a William!

I have looked on ancestry, and still can't find them.

Could I ask another favour?! Can you find him on the 1891 census?

Currently looking at 1881/91...

You can find them on Ancestry by entering the reference on the post above, OR (the way I found them) by searching for John (no surname) b. Lancashire 1874 +/- 1 with spouse Isabella - scroll down the list until you find an unlikely surname ending in **ller, and that's them!

Was Isabella's father called John?  If so, I've found her in 1881 and 1891.

There's a John MILA (definitely says that) with right age/birthplace, grandson of Bridget Smith in 1881...  ???

Otherwise I can't see any likely match at the moment, I'm afraid.   :(

Sometimes I use the LDS site to search for 1881 as they use the option of finding "like" names - ie. Miller will also find Millar - James will also find Jas etc

I found a good combination for John/James (John born liverpool) except the father is listed as a Cowkeeper not a bootmaker. I wonder if that is a possible change?

James Miller head 47 cowkeeper  Lancashire Ulverwalton
Mary do wife mar 40 Lancashire Leyland
John T do son 6 scholar Liverpool
Mary banister Serv unm Servant  Lancashire Barrow in Furness
Beaburner? only information is birthplace Yorkshire Bradford

1881  - 9 & 11 New Bird St Liverpool RG11/3617  107/18

No, I don't think this James is the one I'm looking for. But, thanks for taking the time to look for me.

Hi,

I'm still looking for John Miller and his father James.

I have only found one John Miller with father James in 1881. (Source: FHL Film 1341930 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 3896 Folio 42 Page 9) But, this James was a tram driver, not a boot maker! So, I dont think this is the family I'm looking for.

If anyone can throw some light on this I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Red  :)
