Confirmation on place name!!!!
« on: Friday 17 November 06 19:30 GMT (UK) »
Could someone tell me if this reads Stafford Gt Bridge or Longford Great Bricent.

Both places have been transcribed on census websites for the same person, but this the the actual writing.

Any help really appreciated.

Thanks Gadget, I'll take a look at that.

Yesterday when I looked at the census image, I could see Longford Gt Bricent, but today Gt Bridge. I think I need to get my eyes tested.

There's a village 5 miles from Stafford called Great Bridgeford, but the Census entry appears to be Gt Bridge  ??? ???

Think I've found it.  If you go to www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/Tipton/index.html  it has the following:

"The Birmingham Canal here has many branches which completely insulate a large portion of this parish, which is also crossed by the South Staffordshire Railway, which has stations here at Great Bridge and Dudley Port."

Cheers Bervonian, thanks for the link, it is similar to Gadgets, not surprisingly as the areas are so close and both include Great Bridge.

I think, I will now have to spend some money on certificates and take pot luck with the results!!!!!

Through my eyes it looks like Stafford Great Bridge.

Thanks Everyone for the input, I will concentrate on Great Bridge.

Where do Ancestry get their place names ::), just because he is a Quinn (originally Morgan) and his daughter was born in Ireland. It had me thinking twice on previously found info.

Anyway as soon as funds are available I shall purchase George's birth certificate, hopefully his  ???. I'm hoping I've pinpointed it to the closest quarter.
