Hit a brick wall!! - Malcolms in Antrim - completed
« on: Sunday 19 November 06 21:37 GMT (UK) »
I have ancestors who moved quite a lot in the mid 19th C & am unable to locate them for either the 1901 or 1911 census.

Andrew Malcolm is in Griffiths in 1864 but in 1865 revaluation the house in Taylorstown is marked as "Vacant".  I checked for the next no of years & neighbouring townlands - no sign of him or his family.  I have a married record of his son - Alexander Malcolm & Mary Ann Lyons in 1871 - it states he lives in "Clonkeen, Drummaul" & Andrew Malcolm the father is a Weaver.  I checked Clonkeen in the revaluation books - no signs of any Malcolms or Lyons.  Alexanders 2 sisters Mary & Sarah marry 2 x Camerons in Ahoghill pres church in 1877 / 1886.  I then have no record of them til 1912 when they signed the Ulster covenant giving 92 Ravenhill Ave as their address. I also have a number of married records of Andrew Malcolms grand children from 1916 -1919 giving 116 Castlereagh st as the address.  Why would they move around so much, how do I locate them?  In the belfast street directory of 1912, A. Malcolm is listed as a labourer & I know my GGF worked in H&W.

Hiya Mark,

I thought it would do no harm posting the reply you received from Mary Lennon on Belfast Forum. This will save Rootschatters, who may be able to help you, the trouble of doing a lookup and duplicating this information. Mary sent me a message saying she'll be very busy for the next week but from Christmas Day onwards she'll have more time to do lookups. BTW Mary's daughter passed her Driving Test.
