The Maynard's
« on: Tuesday 21 November 06 18:49 GMT (UK) »
I've been researching my family history and I've stumbled across via the 1861 census my Great Great Great Grandfather who married an Irish woman , but i can't find any record of the marriage in this country, i believe they married whilst he was stationed with the army in Ireland because they had a son (William) who appears on the census 'Where Born' in Ireland.
How do i find out any info about them?
Simeon Maynard married Mary Ann ..........?
Son William born 1850

Many thanks in advance

Hello Maryan,

Have you any information about your Great Great Great Grandfather's army career? If you know his regiment it might be possible to discover where he was stationed at the time of William's birth.

By the way ... what denomination was he?

Religion is important as civil registration of Protestant marriages began in 1845 but not until 1864 for Catholic marriages.

Hi Maryan,

Have a look through the Christian names in the family from the time William was born.
They can be extremely useful as occasionally they may reveal a missing surname.

Samuel Maynard d.1915:
www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=471232

IGI also lists Robert Henry Mynard born 7 Aug.1875 Belfast to Samuel Mynard & Esther McKnight.

Had checked Mynard, Maynard & Minard but didn't think of Meenard. IGI lists child born 1870 as Annie Maria.
