Would appreciate a lookup from anyone with access to the 1851 census index for Joseph and Charlotte Gray/Grey and family at Southill, probably the hamlet of Stanford.

Yes, I feel sure that they are the Beds FHS booklets though I must confess I didn't pay much attention to the cover! Have had a couple of trips to Luton recently, Christmas shopping, & popped in to the library as I was passing to help out fellow researchers by checking the indexes - a bit of light relief!

They now have the indexs indexed on microfiche but when I looked, all it was, was the listed surnames only, followed by lots of numbers which presumably link with the booklets. The fiche was very dark & very difficult to read so somewhat disappointing. Checked out Cook - loads of references - would take days to sift through all the refs.

You were just in time  - I won't be going again for a while.

It's a shame I don't live nearer Bedford Library- they keep the actual census records there but you could always send for a copy I expect, if you give them the reference no.

Almost - had to get sorted early - mass family gatherings looming in the next week or two!

Think I will try a day out somewhere more exotic though to finish off - perhaps MILTON KEYNES!  Won't have time for libraries though!
