which library/records office??
« on: Sunday 26 November 06 17:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I would like to track down school records - if any survive - but I'm not sure which library/records office would hold them.

I know not all 'scholars' on census returns actually received a full time formal education, but a couple of children from one family I'm researching must have received some as one went on to be a church minister and the other a school teacher.  Based on birth place of other children they must have attended 'school' in either Ystradyfodwy? Treorchy or Ynysybwl.  Can anyone tell me where any surviving records would be held for these areas?

Regards

Glamorgan record office holds some school records for places in various parts of Glamorgan. Their web site gives contact details.
Also I think that Treorchy Library has some transcriptions of some local schools - but I can't remember which ones and which dates. You could give them a call.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info.  I'm afraid geography was always my worst subject at school!
