MOORE in Dundalk
« on: Wednesday 29 November 06 13:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,

I'm interested in finding out anything at all about Moores who might have been living in Dundalk around about 1800.

I'm descended from a Bridget Moore, who left Ireland to live in England in the 1820's and married an Englishman, Thomas Martin of Northamptonshire.

On the 1871 England census, she lists her birth town as Dundalk in Louth, and her estimated birth date would be about 1803.

That's all I currently know about her - does anyone have any ideas who might have been her parents or siblings ?

Thanks for any info,

James

James, welcome to Rootschat.
I am not sure if I can help you with your Bridget but here is an excellent site for County Louth. You may want to use the search feature on it to find Moores.  There are some tremendous sources on thios site so even if you don't find Bridget, I am sure you will learn a lot about where she was born and grew up.  http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/index.htm

Best of luck,

Thanks for the tip, Pat!

I'll scour the links there to see if I can find some Moores around the appropriate dates.

Thanks again,

All the best,

James

Further back, from 1661, the Moore family were the Earls of Drogheda.

Your earlship   :o

My goodness! :o

Have you got any references to the earlier Moore family living in Drogheda, so that I might have a go at trying to find some connection with them and Bridget? Not that I expect it will be terribly easy, since it was all so long ago, and records are a bit thin on the ground...

Thanks for the info, in any case - just need to find my ancestral seat to take up my title...  ;D

Just google "Earls of Drogheda" and you'll see them all - from Charles onwards. Good luck

Jab24. Just noticed your Topic.

I too, am looking for Moore in Dundalk, some time later though. My father JAMES THOMAS MOORE was born Dundalk 1900. His father also James, born circa 1865,(birthplace unknown) gave his address in 1900 as Dundalk Military Barracks. The only other information I have is that his address as given in 1897 was Cahir Barracks, Tipperary.

A log shot I know, but does this tie with any information you have. I am becoming desperate.

Thank you  Alan
