RICHARDSON/MORTON - Thanks - >COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 29 November 06 22:09 GMT (UK) »
Is there SKS out there who could please help me track down my g,g, grandmother?

I'd like to know where she was in the 1841 Census - Mary RICHARDSON - born Cheadle in 1824/25.  Her father's name was James Richardson and he was a Coachmaker (according the her marriage certificate in 1846).
She would have been 16 in 1841, so quite possibly not still at home, but I'd be interested to have details of father James either.

I have her in the 1851 Census, (now Mary MORTON) aged 26, living at Basford, Cheddleton, but don't have details of her in any subsequent Census material.
Any additional info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much
- aitch :)

1841
also has a John Richardson 15 yrs and a James Richardson 13 yrs- servants at Basford Hall, Cheddleton.

Family Search has the above plus a Mary and a Thomas - parents James and Ann.

Can't find a suitable James as father in 1841 census.

Ooo...now that really does sound like boys from the same family - perfectly placed in Basford Hall.  Brilliant! ;D

Maybe he's mistranscribed in the 1841 if he's not showing up?  He was certainly still alive by the time Mary married in 1846.

Thankyou again for your help

There are no signs I can see of John and Mary Moreton after 1851.
There is a possible death for John 1852 on free BMD.

Interesting that they're not showing up anywhere.  Oral history suggests that Mary at least lived til the turn of the century.
Think I need to do a little more investigating!

You're help is much appreciated heywood, thanks very much.

With no details of age it's difficult to search for James in 1841 as a mistranscription.
There are a couple of deaths which could be him - 1838 and 1842.
By the way, I have had marriage certificates which seem to indicate that the father was alive (not writing deceased on the cert.) when in fact he was so if that is the source it may well be that he is dead in 1846.
good luck
heywood

ps did Mary live as Moreton/ Morton do you know? Wonderinf if she remarried.
I have looked for a Mary A with a mother Mary but still no real clues. She surely could not be transcribed incorrectly on all censuses??

I was just thinking along the same lines - and if you're right about James possibly not being listed as deceased, then that would account for him being absent from later Census material.

If James did die fairly young, then it's quite possible that she may have re-married.  I've just checked through some notes and there is mention of the name 'Pritchard' which doesn't connect anywhere else.
This maybe a possible route for me to go down.

Thanks again for sharing your trains of thought :)

George is born Yorkshire but Elizabeth is born Lenotn/Fenton? Staffs.
Have tried to make a connection with the couple but can't.
