1911 passinger lists.
« on: Monday 04 December 06 12:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi I have a entry in a family bible of Arthur Rowland Savage and wife Maude sailing to Australia on May 24 1911 on the ss Wilcannia.
I have no more information, where they sailed from, where and when they arrived in Australia.
There is not much info on the ss Wilcannia to be found.
And pointers please.
Peter.

Hi Peter

Your family is shown on the unassisted immigrants to Victoria list as
SAVAGE ARTHUR 25 JUL 1911 WILCANNIA British Port Fiche  827 002
SAVAGE MAUD MRS 26 JUL 1911 WILCANNIA

http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23

This lady travelled on the same ship a little later - related?
SAVAGE HEPHZIBAR MRS 48 DEC 1911 WILCANNIA B 837 006

A little more detail may be available from the microfiche, although not alot of  information is given for unassisted passengers.

There is a birth given
Art Harry Wm Rowland Savage father Arth Rowland mother Maud Ransom Balwyn 1912 Ref 8926
Also
Rowland Ransom Savage father Arth Harry mother Maud Ransom Hawthorn 1916 ref 4125

Vic births are only available to 1920 - I have been known to miss spelling variations, so someone else may find more children.

Arthur Senior served in WWI - his army service has been digitised
http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html

Search as a guest & place his names in the keyword item

Arthur Harry William Savage is shown serving in WWII
Rowland Ransom Save is shown serving in WWII
(you can request via email for digitisation of these records, or you can purchase a photocopy) - you can also see the basics of their service on WWII nominal roll

Rowland Ransom Savage married Thomasina Webb - Annandale NSW 1940

There is a death in NSW in 1951 for an Arthur Rowland Savage - parents given as Henry and Minnie.  Also a Maud in 1965 - father unknown, mother Elizabeth.

I'm hoping to find information of the Finbow family who arrived on the Wilcannia in 1911.  Does anyone know which port the Wilcannia left from or any other details about the ship?

Merry Christmas

Hi Peter,
This may come as some interest to you, but I was googling my grandfather Rowland Ransom Savage when I came across this entry. He was in fact married to Thomasina Webb and was the younger brother to Arthur Savage. Perhaps we are related! I have many photos of the Savage family some as early as the 1920's. We also have in our possession my Grandfathers WW2 Diaries which are incredibly descriptive. I would be more than happy to help you in discovering more, perhaps we can PM some more details.
Sincerely
Emma
