Monasterboice information- COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 06 December 06 08:51 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find information on the parish of Monasterboice and I've been totally unsuccessful. All I get is the church and high crosses. Can anyone please point me to any online info or books that talk about the real Monasterboice and its people?

Thanks,
Simon   :)

The attached Ordinance Survey Letters of 1835 for Monasterboice will go a small way (very small) in answering your query. The writer does prattle on about the high crosses etc, but there is other information there. I have scanned this from the Journal of the County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society 1922. (I have replaced the Gaelic script in the original with modern script).

Also , in the JCLAHS 1945 : 'Townland Survey of County Louth: Monasterboice'. XI, 1, (1945), 52-4, Illustrated. Unfortunately, this is one of the few editions that I don't have.

There is also a book:
Philip King, 'Monasterboice Heritage - A Centenary Celebration', Boylan Print, Ireland, 1994

Hope that is of some help.
