I'm assuming that you have him in later censuses married? I think you're going to have to get the certificate to confirm the father's name since there are two of them, one born about 1856, father Richard and living in Cardiff St John, the other born about 1853 with parents Jeremia and Bridget living Newcastle Glamorganshire.
