Hello There.
If you have no information on your great grandfather,other than
a surname, perhaps it may be better to work back from your own parent, or the grandparent who is this gentlemans child.
If you have the marriage certificate of your grandparent, that should give your great grandfathers full name, and occupation.
From there we may be able to look up him up on the1901
census, presuming of course, that he was born then!!
Also, if you have your grandparents birth certificate, this will
have both your great grandparents names on, including your
great grandmothers maiden name.
