completed Richard Hutton Hepplewhite 1901
« on: Wednesday 13 December 06 10:03 GMT (UK) »
Hello
Looking for  Richard Hutton  Hepplewhite birth registered  December 1878 Rotherham.

In the 1881 census he was 2, with his parents and siblings  in Swinton. (RG11
4682 / 119/42)

In the 1891 Census he was 12 with parents in Rawmarsh, brothers William 25 and Robert 16 and sister Georgina, 18.

I think he served in the Boar War.

A marriage was registered in June 1902 Rotherham to Alice Hesketh or Ada Smith and a child Reginald Hutton Hepplewhite in  December 1902.

I cannot find him in 1901  but I can find everyone else.

Can anyone help?

PatV

Hi PatV

If he served in the Boer War 1899-1902 then it could be that he was serving abroad.

Yes I did think of that.
Do you know how I would find out?
Thankyou for your efforts.

Hello PatV. Richard Hutton Hepplewhite was my grandfather and you have been informed correctly that he was in the Boer War. He married Alice Hesketh in June 1902 and they subsequently had four sons. He continued to live in Rotherham until his death in 1951. I have more details if required.

Dear Lionel K,

Lovely to hear from you. It is ages since I looked at my genealogy and I scarcely know where to begin.

I have quite a lot on the Hepplewhites and would be happy to send it all to you. I even have photos. I did speak to an elderly man in Rotherham on the phone a couple of years ago but made a mess of it and he was very suspicious. He did tell me he'd thrown away all the photos!

My Grandma (Jane Ann) was Richard's sister. My Mum was her last child (b 1912) Mum and Dad had two daughters: Pat and Jan. I am Pat (b1940).

Dear PatV,
I am pleased you received my email.
My genealogical researches have been time limited but I should be able to fill in any gaps in your researches.
Richard Hutton Hepplewhite was complicated by the fact that there was another person by the same name born in Derbyshire and who was a cousin.
I have a very good booklet called "In Search of George Hepplewhite" by a friend of mine who did a lot of extensive research in to the Hepplewhite Dynasty  going back to the 17th. century. It may be possible to get a copy for you.
By the way your email address was blocked due to Rootschat policy.
Best wishes,
Lionel.K

Hello Lionel

I sent you a personal letter with my e- mail address  (your having sent and received two posts) but I'm not sure you received it.
I want to send you information I have back to Durham and Bedfordshire.
Perhaps if you added a third post (in the rules ) it might work.
All the best,
Pat.
PS I do realise you could have been busy.

Just in case anyone is interested in the Hepplewhites, specifically the famous cabinet maker family, the booklet mentioned earlier:

"In Search of George Hepplewhite" was written by Eric Hill and is freely available online courtesy of the Northumberland & Durham Family History Society.
