Birth Lookup - Thomas WATTS c1841 Bittadon

I have been trying without success to find the birth registration for my gg grandfather Thomas Watts

He was born in Bittadon c1841, parents Joseph & Elizabeth Watts
I have him in every census 1841-1901
I have his marriage certificate

But I can't find his birth certificate, which I need to confirm his mother's maiden name as there are a couple of candidates. 

There are a few likely births:
Jun Q  1839   Barnstaple   10   40
Dec Q 1842      Barnstaple   10   39
Dec Q 1842   Barnstaple   10   35

But when I tried to order the certificate, the GRO advised that none of them had a father Joseph. 

Any suggestions?

I have looked on the 1861 census and found Thomas and Elizabeth, Watts - if I have the right family they have a daughter Elizabeth aged 17 born bitadon - did you see that?  I'm assuming she would have been Thomas' sister?

On FreeBMD there is a birth recorded for Elizabeth Watts JUN qtr 1843 registration district Barnstaple vol.10 p.43

Perhaps you could try to get this certificate instead. There's a good chance!

I may have to try that, thanks. 

I'm trying the younger sibling trick with another of my elusive ancestors.  I actually thought about Elizabeth a short time ago, but when I looked at her birth date I read it as 1834 instead of 44, so discarded that idea and didn't bother looking for her registration. 

Thomas is very frustrating though, he should be there!

*The image isn't clear, I'm almost sure it says 27  .

Just for completeness, in case anyone else is searching, I finally found him! Born 22 May 1839 Bittadon.

Birth quarter   2 Birth year   1839
Mother's maiden name   Daniel
District   Barnstaple County   Devon
Volume   10 Page   40

Which is weird as GRO had previously advised that the 1839 registration did not have father's name of Joseph, and yet there it is!
