Peter Morrison-COMPLETED WITH THANKS
« on: Tuesday 19 December 06 13:35 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find as much information on Peter Morrison and Ann Sinclair
Married 22/11 1827, Comrie, Perth, Scotland.
Need to verify if these two people are in fact the parents of my Great-Great Grandfather William Morrison who went to Western Australia and married a Eliza-Jane Kerr.
William married Eliza-Jane 7/6/1872, Pingelly, Western Australia.
If Peter and Ann are in fact not related to this particular William Morrison maybe some-one out there might be able to help me locate Williams' parents.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.  If any one has any info on any of these 4 people, I would love to hear from you.
Regards
Liz

Hi Liz

Have you got William's MC (or DC) in Australia? It would help at least to verify his father's name, occupation. Also, do you have a birth year for your William and place of birth?

Regards.

These are the children showing for Peter and Ann from IGI:

1. JOHN MORRISON  Birth: 15 JUL 1835/ Christening: 24 JUL 1835 Comrie, Perth, Scotland
2. WILLM. MORRISON  Christening: 10 SEP 1828 Comrie, Perth, Scotland
3. PETER MORRISON Christening: 17 NOV 1832 Comrie, Perth, Scotland
4. DUNCAN MORRISON  Christening: 10 JAN 1831 Comrie, Perth, Scotland
5. JAMES MORRISON Christening: 03 FEB 1838 Comrie, Perth, Scotland

From these dates, your William would have been at least 44 years old when he married in Australia.

Hi Joe

Let's see if Liz has any further firm info on William, hopefully a MC to at least verify father's name and William's age.

Regards.

i really do not want to throw a spanner into the works so near christmas but i have found this!!

peter morrison married mary mc laren muthill, perth on the 21st november 1822.

1841 census: muthill village

peter...age 45...hand loom weaver
mary...age 31
peter...age 16...hand loom weaver
william...age 14...hand loom weaver
john...age 8

all born perthshire

it would make sense for william to have a big brother called peter.

1851 census: muthill village

peter...head...age 48...hand loom weaver
peter...son...age 27...hand loom weaver
william...son...age 21...hand loom weaver
john...son...age 17...hand loom weaver

all born muthill, perth

now it begs the question as to what your william's employment was in oz, was he a weaver?

trying to help

Willian was married to an Ann McGibbon and had 2 children( 1 son and 1 daughter) before he was sent to Western Australia. Maybe this why there is a mix up with mothers' surname on death cert.
This is all I know about first wife unfortunately.

Hi Liz

From your last post, I assume that William may have married Ann McGibbon in Scotland? Do you know the name of his two children? It would help when looking in the pre 1871 Censuses. Did his two children travel with him to Australia?

How do you know the name of his first wife, is it from his DC?

Lots of questions but sometimes the smallest piece of info can help to make things fall into place in terms of the record trail.

Regards.

Monica  :)

One last question! Does it state on his MC/DC what his father Peter's occupation was?
