Jane Marvel look-up
« on: Thursday 21 December 06 21:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am quite new to this site, but my research has thrown up my great-great-great grandma who was called Jane, and I think that her surname was Marvel (from a marriage search - she married James Jowett in 1878 I think!)

Anyway, I know from census returns in the UK that she was born in Belfast, but I wondered if there was any more to find about her. Anything that you can turn up would be most appreciated because at the moment it just says "Jane" on my family tree!

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!! :)

Hi Bearpaw:

I'm responding to your post because no one else has and while I really can't help you with information, I can suggest you repost this on the county Antrim list where some of the Belfast helper's usually lurk.  With luck some of them may be able to give you a boost in the right direction.

good Luck!

Seasons Greetings BearPear,

Welcome to RootsChat.

Jane married in 1878 so she was probably born in the 1850s.

There's no sign of a family named Marvel in the 1852 or 1861 Directories of Belfast and the Province of Ulster.

In the 1880 Directory Jowett, J., foreman engineer, 64 Townsend Street is listed.

There's no need to repost. I've asked Admin to move your post to the Co. Antrim Look Ups Request board.

Good luck with your search.

Chris
