1895/6 Was there an electoral roll?

 :-\
I'm looking to see if I can do a house/address search for 1895 & 1896...?
I need to see if My grt grt uncle was living in the same house and if his son to his first wife was with him...
James Shard born 1865 married Ann Elizabeth Jones, she was his second wife...in 1895 .....
He already had a son Robert born 1884 in Widnes..
I can't find any entries for Robert, but was wondering if he was with them when they married at 14 Irwell Street, Widnes..in the years 1895 & 1896?

I found Robert on the 1901 census in Scotland on a Navy Training ship...
Someone must have signed for him to join as he was only 16yrs old, but who and how do I find this out..?
Carol

Hi Carol,

HappY Xmas!

You can download Robert's navy records from the National Archives:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?queryType=1&resultcount=1&Edoc_Id=6932524

I had a look in http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/index.asp for Shards in Lancashire in the 1890's and found only two: an Ellen Shard in Liverpool and a Joseph Shard in Manchester.
