Come back soon Gadget  :-*. Hopefully your BT line will hold through the storms, although going by the last few weeks, there's probably not much chance of that!

Happy Hogmany if we don't speak before  :)

Thank you for all your great help Gadget!!!!!  If you don't get back:  Best wishes for the new year!!!

Hi Monica and Joe,

That is very strange about the Mary Gordon entry!!!!   If she is the mother of Mary Gordon b. 1854 then she may have been illegitimate too.

George Cooper seems to be working away from home in a farm with a Kelman household:

George Cooper, 17, agricultural labourer, b. King Edward, Aberdeenshire

Address: Balthangie, Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire

Apart from the Kelman family, there is a house servant Mary Cowie age 18 ( :'( if only it was a Mary Gordon!).

Hi All back again briefly

Look for a baptism for a Mary Robertson/Cowper or any other Mary around the time. This could be an illegitimate birth to a son or just possibly to Margaret - look at all options Banff and Aberdeen.

Can't do much because of unreliability.

Good luck

Hi Joe

The most obvious one is this one:

Mary Gordon  b. abt 1836  b. King Edward, Aberdeeshire  Servant  in New Deer     Aberdeenshire

How to connect though? Likely she may have married by 1861? I think we need to  try and find George and this Mary if we can in 1861.

Looking at the IGI,

there is a Mary Gordon born May 3, 1838, chr. May 29, 1838 in Foveran, Aberdeen.

father: Maxwell Gordon
mother: Margaret Robertson!!!

What do you think?

This Margaret Robertson and Maxwell Gordon also had children:

George Robertson Gordon b. 1829 Foveran, Aberdeen
Robert Gordon b. 1830 Foveran
Maxwell Gordon b. 1833 Foveran
Alexander Gordon b. 1834 Foveran

So I guess it is not them. :'(
