Strange comment on death cert. **COMPLETED**
« on: Wednesday 03 January 07 18:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi
My ancestor Ann Mitchley died in Christchurch Hosipital in 1900
On the death cert it states the cause of death 'cancer, by verdit of the court'
Would there have been an inquest? If so where could i perhaps find details?
I have never seen this on a death cert especially when the person died in a hosipital

Hi Possum

This is certainly not an uncommon thing to find on NZ death certificates and I have a few with this type of information. Yes it would seem to concur that an inquest did take place and as Ann died in Christchurch  this address would be the best place to start

Archives New Zealand,Christchurch Regional Office
PO BOX 642
90 Peterborough Street
Christchurch.

hope this helps
