Hi all,

On some of the census' that the head of the family would have the job that they are in and then it says that they employ 3 men, 5 labourers and 6 boys?

I am just wondering why this was done?

It's denoting the difference between an employee and a small businessman.  How many people he employed gave an indication of his status, I suppose.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.
