This is probably Mahala's "new" family in 1871,in Grimsby:

William Price (or so its indexed ), head, mar, 36, Labourer **** Yard, London
Mala, wife,32,Horncastle
Sarah, 8, Louth
George,4, Grimsby
William,2,Grimsby

The names correlate with 1881 and 1901 censuses for Mahala (found it by searching any George born Grimsby 1867 + or - 2....based on the 1881 entry)

Suggests that Thomas was indeed off the scene by 1871

John

LINCOLNSHIRE: Sergeant, Dent, Watts, Fussey, Portas, Middleton, Bullivant, Howson, Lingard, Arliss, Laceby, Holtby, Lamb, Host, Stark, Hicks, Cuthbert, West. DEVON: Parkhouse, Brace, Mullins, Luxton,Cook ,Nicholls, Ley

Good find John!

I would say the mystery occupation was "Labourer Deal Yard",  "Deal" being a sort of timber, possibly imported via the Louth Canal.

Or a bad transcription of "Labourer Coal Yard"
