1871 Census Scarborough
« on: Saturday 06 January 07 09:31 GMT (UK) »
I discovered a possible new relation yesterday, in a copy of my g.grandfathers will, he mentions a bequest from George Bacon, in a will dated, 30/12/1879, i tried the 1881 census for this George, but couldn't find him, however on Ancestry, i found brief details of a George Bacon, & Wife Mary, in Scarborough, has anyone please got access to this census for more details ?
Thank You, bodger

Not sure about where they are in 1861 but this looks possible for 1851 - no not possible, probable since they have the same housekeeper ;)

There's a great shortage of Bacon about ;)  Can't be sure about this one either but I believe I have the occupation correct although it's not easy to read, and "merchant" would match with the 1851 entry.

1841 Stoney Street, St Mary, Nottinghamshire
George Bacon 35 Lace Merchant Y
Mary 30 Y
John Sibsond? 20 M.S. N
Elizabeth Mile 30 F.S. Y
Elizabeth Thirlby F.S. Y

Could this be them in 1861 as visitors

Well I wondered if they were on holiday and left the servants behind but strangely, since  Eliza rejoins them later, the pair of them are working for somebody else

The Mount, Holy Trinity Micklegate, York
Thomas N Champney, a 72 year old Widower Proprietor of Land born London Blackfriars Street.
Although they are listed as William and Eliza Bramley the birthplaces West Leak and Clifton are right so I think it clinches it.
Another servant Ann Bell and a visitor Edwin Dalby 47 year old builder born Notts, Sutton Birmingham.
RG9/3547; Folio: 57; Page: 43

So presumably the servants found, or maybe were helped to find, other positions while the Bacons were away, on holiday?
