Death duty registers 1834
« on: Saturday 06 January 07 12:04 GMT (UK) »
If anyone is going to TNA, I would love them to check the Death Duty registers for Thomas Martin, builder of St Pancras London, died February 1834, will proved later that year.  I have his will, but would love to know the worth of his assets when he died!!

Any help very gratefully received,

MarieC

Thanks for this, Frances.

I've been to the site and searched for my Thomas Martin.  He wasn't found by the search!!   ??? ??? ???  Should have been, as I'm sure there would have been death duty on his estate.  So I am no further ahead!  Maybe the online registers aren't complete.

Having been back to TNA site and searched - I see that only death duty registers from 1796 to 1811 are online!

This does not cover the people in whom I am interested.  Frances, you might like to amend your information here.

So my original request stands.  I think copies of these are also at the FRC.  If anyone going to either place could look for my Thomas Martin in 1834, I'd be most grateful!!!

At findmypast you would have to pay to see the actual document, I believe - or perhaps it is even just to see the index entry.

I've had someone look at the indexes on findmypast for me, but they are complex and not informative, she says.  So I am really looking for the registers!

He doesn't show up when you search online at the National Archives.  I am not positive if their online listings are comprehensive, but, if they are, perhaps it doesn't exist.  Have you enquired as to whether they would have any additional index materials which aren't online?
