Where did this marriage take place?
« on: Sunday 07 January 07 04:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everybody,
I would appreciate your help in establishing just where (town/village) the marriage of Edward Thomas MAMMATT and Mary Alice SANKEY took place on 26 Dec 1881, knowing it was at "Parish Church" in the "Parish of St Clement" in the County of "Lancaster". Squeezed under the word "Clement" on the certificate , are two words difficult to decipher. They look a bit like - "Lower??... Broughton?" The bride and groom were both resident at 16 Cambridge St. (somewhere ? ) at the time.
Can anyone help out with this one please?
Chanel ??? ???

There is this Lower Broughton in Greater Manchester

PS. You might like to try www.old-maps.co.uk (I can't get into it at the moment to check for you)

Good luck.

Don't know if this is the right place. You can check out the maps on the links.

If you look this marriage up on Lancashire BMD it comes out as Broughton, St Clements. Broughton (Higher & Lower) are part of modern Salford. The older registers for this church are listed as being at Manchester Central Library.
Cambridge Street still exists - if you want a map it is Cambridge Steet, Salford, M7 on
