Land Owners

Hello all

In the 1841 Census of my Great x Grandfather George Edwards
 it says he is living at Shiplet, Bleandon and living by Independant Means in the 1851 it tells us he was born in Wick St lawrence (both Somerset) and is Farmer, Land Proprietor, House Proprietor .

My grandmother once told me that the family had owned a large estate in Shiplet Farm/Manor/ which was lost to chancery.

in the 1873 land Owners I have it has a George Edwards having the following lands

Bleadon 2. 3 .29
Camerton  Bath 8. 2 .25 
Walton Glastonbury 5. 1 .1
Wick St Lawrence 3. 1 .27   

Could anyone please tell me how I could find out about what Lands he did own.

I would suggest that you first try to find a will. Presuming that he died after 1858 you need to look in the National Probate Calendar; you can check that at any Probate office and probably at your nearest County Record Office or LDS Family History Centre. Alternatively the York Probate office will do a search for you.
