Unknown military man
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 22:34 GMT (UK) »
I know the subject of these 2 photographs is family but I just don't know who he is.  I'm not even entirely sure it's the same man.  What do you think?  Can anyone help me with date, uniform identification or even suggestions of how old you think he may be.  He looks so much older in the posed picture, really tired and stressed around the eyes.  Anyway, here he is

I tried to zoom in on and enhance the badge but I'm not sure it's much help.
Thanks so much,
Louise

He is wearing the general service issue army uniform from the 1st world war and would appear to have been a member of the Army Service Corps, if you get abetter close up of the the metal shoulder badge it should have the initinals ASC on it.

Reckoning he looks around the mid-thirties in age in the top 'strained' picture, whilst he appears younger in the next (full length) picture.

yes that's what I had thought although sometimes when I look at the sitting picture he looks a lot older.  I guess it would have me looking for a birthdate of maybe 1885 - 1890.
Thanks for your input, I wish I knew who he was.

So, if we suppose the uniform is around 1916-17, perhaps we should birthdate him in the early 1880s, around 1881-82.

Annoying when you can't put a name to the person all the same.
