« on: Friday 12 January 07 20:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Just had a look for a long lost cousin of mine in the birth registers and found him( can't give many details as living).

Basically under volume and page , volume is normal but page says

see m'51

Anybody know what this means?

Thank you.

Kev.

Maybe his parents married after he was born and so his parents re-registered his birth?

Hmm. Not convinced about that explanation. So far as I am aware, once an event has been registered - that's it! You can't change your mind.

It is more likely to be a clerical error. Your cousin may have been born in (say) December 1950 and registered in January 1951, but the entry was originally put in the wrong quarter (for fairly obvious reasons).

Dave, you can re-register a child's birth - my brother-in-law's birth was re-registered and shows as such in the index (and it was because his parents married after his birth) and I've re-registered one of my kiddos too (for the same reason lol)

Cheers!
Rach.
