Hi David

I've just got back from the Magic Attic - I've had another look through the Derby Mercury from 20th March to the 3rd April 1844 and I can't find any mention of the birth, death or accident I'm affraid.

I'm sure there would have been an inquest but I'm not sure if/when that would have been published.

If you find out anything else that might help narrow down the search just let me know and I'll take another look.

Hi Glyn

Thanks very much for the South Derbyshire link, I had forgotten about it! I have taken a look at it and found a baptism in Hartshorne that I had been looking for for ages! So thanks again for that!!

Thanks for checking at Magic Attic for any info regarding the mining accident, if i find any other details whether it be inquest details or anything else i'll let you know!

Is there anywhere online that i can look at Stapenhill Baptisms and Marriages that you know of?

Many thanks.

Regards

David

Hi David

not that I've come across...

They would be listed in the Burton Papers at the Magic Attic depending on the year of course and you'd obviously need to know the rough date.

They are compiling an electronic record of all Births, Deaths and Marriages from the papers but as you can imagine it's a long job and only certain years have been completed.

Do you know what year(s) you're looking for?

Hi Glyn

I do have a little info to go on. Namely as follows:-

Joseph Parker christened 8th April 1788, parents George and Ellen Parker.

Joseph was christened at Stapenhill (parish church, i think) but the family lived in Newhall.

What i need if possible is George and Ellen's marriage, which may have been in the 1780's and any siblings of Joseph's.

To avoid any confusion this Joseph is the father of the Joseph who had the mining accident!

Many thanks

Regards

David

I was down at the Magic Attic on Saturday and Clyde told me that they have identified the location of the pit.

It was on the site of what is now the Roman Catholic Church at the top of Darklands Road.
This would make sense as it is right next to the White House Farm on the old map mentioned in an earlier post.

If I find out anything else I'll let you know.

Hello cousin David,

Have just come across your post.

I'm lucky! I am descended from THAT Joseph, via his granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Parker, who married Walter Charles Adams in Roxeth, Middx, 24.10.1898.

I don't have much on the Parkers, but be glad to help if you are still researching.

Marie
