This might be your John Say on the 1851 census

Hi
Welcome to rootschat.   You think his father is called James.  How do you know?   Can you quote a census for your John?   Who did he marry and when?    What children did he have?  I am sure you actually know more facts than you have given.  It all helps.  If we can find John on later census then we can narrow down his marriage date and once you get that certificate you will know his father.  Or have you already got it?

Hi there.yes I do have a little more info regarding the John Say I requested look up for. He married Alice Way b: 1829 Bath they were married in Taunton 10/03/50. I was given this information by a cousin who had a copy of their marriage certificate. Her father was Charles Way (painter not sure if that is artist or house) and John's father was James (weaver ) I do not personally have a copy of the certificate and the cousin has since died. I have no other information going further back though I have them on Census for 1861Cross Street Compton Bishop. with four children one of whom John 2. was my Grandfather. Here he was an upright which I assume (perhaps not correctly is a sort of lodging house/pub keeper. They proceeded to have 7 children and Johnremarried after Alice died and had two more. I would like to trace both sets of parents if i knew where to start.  Mollgin anticipation.
Hi Mollyg
I have quoted what you sent me as a pm because others may well be able to help and it also saves them chasing the wrong line.
I will look further later today if no-on responds but it does look as if the 1881 census record quoted is correct.
