Hi I'm trying to do my husband's family tree for him and I know his maternal grandparents were Alfred and May Richardson and they must have been born c1910 era, his mum Dorothy was born in 1933, one of his 6 children but that is all I know about the Richardson family.

Hi

I have had a look at the birth registration details of Dorothy, I can only find one for 1933 that was registered in Knaresborough, which covers Harrogate.

Dorothy M Richardson
mothers maiden name Pickering
Apr-Jun 1933
District of Knaresbro
Vol 9a
Page 140

This gives you the maiden name of May.

Next step I think would be to find the marriage of Alfred and May. Was Dorothy the oldest child?

Hi Nicky

Many thanks for your help.  You are right my mum in law's middle name is May.  Unfortunately having raised 15 children and now getting on her memory is very poor so all I know of the family is that there were 4 girls one of whom died, Dot(as she is known) has a surviving older sister Betty, so she would be Elizabeth and a younger one Brenda and one of her brothers died the other is around her age and called Donny.  The family were all born in Harrogate as far as I'm aware.

Bingo, found the marriage.

May Pickering
Alfred W Richardson
district of Wharfedale
Oct-Dec 1924
Vol 9a Page 321

If you obtain this marriage certificate, it would give you their ages (hopefully) and also their fathers names which would enable you to take a step back.

Hi Nicky

That's brilliant.  I'll check it out.  I grew up in Leeds and my mum had told me we were related to a family called Richardson in Starbeck Harrogate, and my hubby's family grew up just down the road from there so I'm hoping that I can find a connection through his side of the family, as somewhere along the road our paths cross but I can't find a Richardson connection in my tree, hopefully through this lead our ancestors might meet up.

Thanks once again
Yours Julie

Ps Just found him on ancestry born Sep 1900 in Knaresborough district middle name William.

These could be some of the children, all the mothers maiden names are Pickering.

Margaret Richardson
Apr-Jun 1925
District of Knaresbro
Vol 9a Page 236

Elizabeth Richardson
Apr-Jun 1926
District of Knaresbro
Vol 9a Page 187

I am going out for a while, will get back to this later today, and see what other children I can find.

Hi Nicky

Thanks.  I managed to find Alfred on Ancestry.  I've just checked with Pete his late auntie was called Peggy fitting in with Margaret, he can't remember his late uncle's name though.

Yours Julie

Not sure that these would all be siblings, as the area moves about, but you never know.

The dates I looked at were between 1924 and Dorothys birth in 1933.

Hi Nicky

Thanks for all your help.  Harrogate is one of those strange districts that doesn't often appear under it's own name.  I have the same problem with my ancestors in the Kirkbymoorside area.

Yours Julie
