Help, please - Dennis in Kent
« on: Saturday 20 January 07 22:29 GMT (UK) »
Can someone please help?

I am stuck at my G G G Grandfather - Thomas Dennis, born 1809/10 in Molash, Kent.  Married 1843 to Caroline Kerslake in Upchurch.  Died 1869 in Rainham, Kent (where three children: William, Thomas & Emma all born).

Think his father's name was Thomas too as witness at marriage to Caroline.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks,
 :)
Dennis: Kent
Kerslake: Taunton
Swan: Kent/London
Hanna: Kent/Ireland (?)

Have you got his 1841 census details, hopefully that would place him with family before marriage?  The Thomas witness at the marriage could have been a brother or uncle

Hi Jules

This looks like Thomas in 1841 with his 1st wife.

Address looks like Ham Green

All born Kent

DENNIS

Thomas 30         Gardener

Thanks to everyone for all the info. - very grateful.  :D

Did think Eliza died young.

Also, think young Thomas could have been witness to his father Thomas Snr's marriage to Caroline Kerslake, but he would have only been about 7 years old???

Was hoping to try and find out Thomas Snr's parents / siblings / where to look next.

Thanks again to all,
 :)

 Hi Jules

I am new to Rootschat. Tried to send a message earlier but the server had crashed so not sure if it got through.

I have Caroline Kerslake and Thomas Dennis on my tree. I will respond further when I know that this message works!

Perhaps you have Carolines bc by now?

ok looks like that worked!

Thomas Dennis - married twice to Jane (unknown) and Caroline Kerslake. 5 children with Jane - last one Sarah died at birth(1843) and Jane died then too - in childbirth?
Caroline had 3 children but only Emma Jane Ashdown Dennis(1844) survived.

My family folklore (not proven) - has Caroline's mother as Jeanette Nation and her maternal grandmother as Jeanette de Lille from France (poss around the French Revolution). The Nations moved to Kent where Mr Nation was a farmer.

Caroline used to take holidays in France - returning with gifts for her grandchildren.

But - can't find any records to support this.

I see you have Swan and Harris on your list.

My husband's famly originated from Molash and Sheldwich  and a Thomas Harris married Ada Swan from Throwley and moved to London.

Just wondered if there is any connection.
